I think there are three main reasons I haven't been blogging at all the past two months. First, I got engaged and it's hard to do that subject justice on a blog but at the same time it seemed silly to blog about something else and ignore this. Suffice it to say that I'm really excited, and we're getting married August 22. Second, I've been really busy. Third, there's been nothing exciting to blog about (save the engagement).

It has come home to me how much I will miss the music scene when I leave IU. A friend and I saw the Dresden Staatskapelle play Beethoven's 1st piano concerto and Brahms' 4th symphony on Monday, and a big group is going to The Love for Three Oranges (Prokofiev) this weekend fro $6 a ticket (good seats too). I may skip the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on Sunday because the repertoire sounds kind of boring. The week we get back from Thanksgiving Break goes something like this:

Monday there's a film about Elliott Carter to recognize his 100th birthday
Tuesday a quartet is playing Webern, Haydn, and Beethoven
Wednesday Pro Arte is singing something by Carissimi and a Bach cantata
Friday the Symphonic Choir is singing Schubert, Tomas Luis de Victoria, and Daniel Pinkham
Saturday the New Music Ensemble is playing tons of Elliott Carter and Messaien

And those are only the concerts I'm pretty sure I want to go to--all free. I don't think you can beat this anywhere in the world.

Tim,

What a rich musical place you inhabit! And I'm happy to see you blogging again.

Lots of love,

Dad
